Early Days
The very first TK Maxx store opened in Bristol in 1994.
Claimed rationale and raison detre
TK Maxx claims that they are able to offer low prices on brand names by employing a large team of opportunist buyers who buy in bulk worldwide. They claim that their buyers are able to see a ""; capitalize on the gains made from these favourable transactions and pass some of these savings onto their customers. These favourable bargains are hard to come by but are supposedly made often by their large team of buyers who take advantage of their size. It is this claimed flexible approach of their buyers, who aren't tied to certain suppliers and can pick and choose the most favourable offers which they find, that TK Maxx claim allows them to offer low prices on designer names.
TK Maxx also profess that their spartan store layout and no frills approach allows them to save money on overheads, etc. and allows them to pass further savings onto customers.
General
TK Maxx is not limited to designer clothing; they sell a variety of items from Homewares to chocolate and gifts.
